UNDP Supports the Production of Key Poverty Reports

Harare, 8 May 2013: UNDP mobilised about US $ 1.7 million from its core resources, UNICEF, and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID) to support the Zimbabwe National Statistical Agency (ZIMSTAT) in undertaking the Poverty Income Consumption and Expenditure Surveys (PICES) between 2010 and 2012.

8 May 2013: With US $ 882,000 support from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Zimbabwe and Zambia agreed to forge a common front in the fight against malaria along their shared border that straddles the Zambezi valley.

Bicycles deployed in a drive to fight Malaria in Matabeleland South Province

Bulawayo 14 March, 2013: In an effort to enhance delivery of malaria pre-elimination activities in Matebeleland South Province, UNDP has facilitated the procurement of 124 bicycles that will be used to conduct door-to-door campaigns by Ward Health Teams and sensitizing the public on behaviour change activities. The bicycles will also be used for following up all malaria cases and identification and treatment of mosquito breeding sites.

In Zimbabwe, UNDP-EU support development of new Constitution

25 January 2013 EU has awarded UNDP a new contract worth EUR 500,000 to continue to support the drafting and adoption of a new Constitution for Zimbabwe. As part of the agenda to support democratic transformation in the country, the UNDP-EU partnership has since 2009 assisted the Zimbabwean authorities to prepare and conduct a participatory, inclusive and transparent constitution making process.

GEPMI Trainees Graduate in a Historic Ceremony

Harare, 26 November 2012: In a first for Zimbabwe, 73 senior policy makers involved in budgeting planning, policy making, human resources and gender mainstreaming graduated from the inaugural three-week Gender Responsive Economics Policy Management Initiative (GEPMI) course, developed by UNDP in collaboration with leading regional and international experts.
