Civil Society organizations to observe constitution making process in Zimbabwe
C.Gavi
Civil Society organizations were given the green light by the Constitution Parliamentary Select Committee (COPAC), represented by co-chairs Hon. Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana and Hon. Douglas Mwonzora, to observe the constitution making process in Zimbabwe at a consultation meeting held on July 6, 2010, Parliament building.
The meeting was called following media reports on the arrests in Manicaland and Mashonaland East provinces of civil society monitors on allegations of trying to undermine the constitution making process. Fearing that the arrests would cause a rift between civil society and government, the co-chairs called for the meeting to engage the groups concerned on modalities for better coordination and management of the process by both sides.
