United Nations Country Team Zimbabwe Joint Scoping mission

May 2009

A Joint Scoping mission led by the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) Zimbabwe, in conjunction with the World Bank (WB), European Commission (EC) and African Development Bank (AfDB), together with the government and other partners are currently involved in laying the groundwork for a possible future comprehensive needs assessment for Zimbabwe. The mission started work in early April this year and the first phase of the mission is set to be completed at the end of May.

UNDP Zimbabwe requested to become Principal Recipient of the Global Fund Grants to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria

May 2009

Zimbabwe is currently implementing Round 5 of the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and Malaria (GFATM) and Round 8 grant preparations are scheduled to start once execution of the remaining Round 5 begins. The GFATM, a public- private partnership created in 2002, seeks to dramatically increase resources and programmes to fight three of the world’s most devastating epidemics and to direct these resources to areas of greatest needs.

Capacity Development of the Parliament Women’s Caucus: Confidence building and strategic planning with the support of UNDP Zimbabwe Country Office

24th to 27th April 2009, Nyanga

In line with UNDP’s Gender Equality Strategy, the UNDP Zimbabwe Country Office (CO) Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women Work Plan, the Millennium Development Goal No. 3 and the national gender priorities aimed at enhancing the participation of women in decision making processes, UNDP CO in collaboration with the Parliament Women’s Caucus, a local NGO, Women in Politics and Parliament of Zimbabwe supported a capacity development workshop for the Parliament Women’s Caucus. The aim of the workshop was to build the capacity of the newly appointed leadership of the Parliament Women’s Caucus and the Caucus membership in confidence, leadership and strategic thinking and planning. Most of the female MPs prior to their appointments have never held positions in Parliament.
